CIA-Rocketry  > Local Launches > TCI Launch at Tuscola 5/21/2006
It was a windy spring day. Variable winds. Warm with a just a little haze. Visibility was good but not great.

Only Kevin and Lon were flying but most of the rest of the club showed up to watch. All rockets flew well, were recovered, and undamaged!

Chris came with a van full of rockets but we couldn't convince him to sacrifice any to the rocket gods.

CIA-Rocketry > Lon's Hawk Mountain "Transonic II" on its maiden flight with a I600.

6lbs, fiberglass body, Acme fin can and rail guides, 7' tall, 2" minimum diameter, duel Perfect Flight MAWD altimeters, Rocket Man chute.

Pretty flame!

CIA-Rocketry > Transonic II in the only straight flight of the day. I guess 35Gs helps!

The recovery system worked perfectly.

The rocket is about to land on a power line with both ends of the shock cord touching the ground. Hey, there is an argument for long shock cords! It was no problem removing it from the power line with a nice insulated pole.

CIA-Rocketry > Altimeter data from the Transonic II flight. Note the spike at apogee and another really big one at main chute deployment. Maybe next time I should seal the altimeter from the ejection charges?

CIA-Rocketry > Kevin's two stage with a I211 in the booster and a H180 in the sustainer. The electric match for igniting the second stage never fired. Kevin attributes this to damage the altimeter sustained in a previous flight. The chutes came out just fine for both stages and it all came down safely and unharmed.
