Every spring, the CIA holds a "build'n'fly" workshop for beginning rocketeers (ages 8 - 12) in cooperation with the Champaign Park District. This year, it was held May 12, 2007 at the Park District's Leonhard Recreation Center. We had to cancel the "fly" part of the activity, which is scheduled to coincide with a regular Saturday afternoon club launch, because of poor weather. Several of the participants did get a chance to fly their rockets at other CIA club launches later in the summer. As usual, the participants built Estes Alpha IIIs with help from their parents and CIA members Jonathan Sivier, Greg Smith, Chris Deem and Robert Brunner. Each one also received two motors, an "A" and a "B," plus igniters and recovery wadding to fly them with.
