CIA-Rocketry  > Outreach & Education > CPD Demo and Illinois Aerospace Institute Launch 7/18/2008
The third Friday in July is launch day for the Illinois Aerospace Institute, a summer aviation and space careers camp for high school students sponsored by the University of Illinois Department of Aerospace Engineering. CIA assists the campers in building and flying their rockets, both D-motor-powered payloaders carrying an altimeter and a raw egg, and rocket-boosted gliders. Each camper has the opportunity to make two flights with each rocket. This year, we also scheduled a demonstration launch for members of the Champaign Park District's summer day camp on the morning of the same day. It made for a long, hot and tiring day at the Dodds Park launch site, but there were some great -- and some not-so-great -- flights.
